Based on my understanding, each of Christ’s churches should look like a train station. And each train (Christian) a disciple of Jesus Christ heading out of the station into the world to make more disciples and thereby more train stations.
The train stations should be be prepared to equip, assist with the onboarding process, and educate each train (disciple) on the rules of the rails (the path of Jesus).
Instead of Thomas the train (in the picture), each engine should look like, act like, and be like Jesus Christ to the world to do the works that He did and even greater (John 14:12). And just as a train is created to pull the weight, deliver products, and maintain schedules, we should be ready to preach the gospel to every creature, heal the sick, raise the dead and cast out demons in His name (Mark 16:15-18).
We will know each train, not by their markings or numbering, but by their fruit they bear while they operate. Instead of successful deliveries and met schedules, we would expect to have the fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) along our journey to show who we are a disciple of.
The purpose of our life, our mission, our ministry, and our reason to exist is made well known by our operations manual, the Bible. It is by His love we can do what we were created to do and it is our calling to stay on task and deliver the goods necessary to create more disciples, and hopefully, more churches as we go.
There is a misconception that there are too many churches. If this were true, our purpose would be fulfilled. Since we are still here, I interpret this as a statement from God to continue the mission in leading others to Him.
There are many people in the world who are in need of us to help get them to the place God wants them to be today. Will you be offering your service to Him to do so? May we all successfully traverse this lifetime and arrive at our expected final destination, with Him in Heaven.

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
