Cynic (noun)
- an inclination to believe that people are motivated purely by self-interest; skepticism.
- 1550s, “one of the ancient sect of philosophy founded by Antisthenes,” from Latinized form of Greek kynikos “a follower of Antisthenes,” literally “dog-like,” from kyōn (genitive kynos) “dog” (from PIE root *kwon- “dog”).
To be unhopeful, doubtful, skeptical, and pessimistic of our fellow man when it comes to God or of God Himself, is cynicism and it is to act dog-like. There is no place for it in the kingdom of God.
“Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.”

We can all fall into these behaviors and we all miss the mark on occasion. So, is there hope for a cynical person? Yes, indeed.
“Anyone who is among the living has hope—even a live dog is better off than a dead lion!”
Ecclesiastes 9:4
When we change our ways (repent) from cynicism to optimism and begin to act in faith of an eternal hope in Jesus Christ, He will give us steadiness and strengthen us by helping us with our unbelief (Mark 9:24).
