When God’s soldier’s are put into bondage to anything, e.g.: caffeine, sex, prescription and illicit drugs, nicotine, alcohol, food, TV, or anything that takes away from their ability to work in the Kingdom of God, it can reveal exactly what the person needs to know about their calling from God.
Whatever we may be suffering from at some point, is often the area of life that others need us to help them. Breaking the addiction or bondage to sin is the first step to identifying how the enemy uses vices to control and enslave God’s people.
Addictions of any kind are a type of escape mechanism for people to escape or get away from something that causes pain and suffering. It is when we endure the pain (through fasting) and choose to reject the devil’s tools (sins of lust, greed, coveting, pride) he’s using to control us (bondage) that we can truly see the freedom that Jesus paid for on the cross for us to have. We can have liberty through Christ to have life and have it more abundantly.
And when we are free from addictions, it is then we can start setting the other captives free too. By revealing to others who Jesus is and what they have been trying to replace along with their addictions is the relationship they are suppose to have with the one true God, who is Jesus Christ.
Addictions can be the window we need to see to reveal what Jesus did to free us and teach us how to help others, by loving them. And addiction does not have to be the end.
We should never give up on addicts. We should never abandon them and leave them to the world to destroy. Yes, people do have free will and they will do whatever it is they think they want the most, but we should also remember that many can be redeemed through Jesus Christ, no matter what they did to run away from their calling in life.
Many people have been addicts and they did not succumb to it. Whether through rehab, a divine intervention, or by divine revelation, many have walked away from addiction once they chose to empower their free will to do so or were radically transformed by Jesus. I was saved from addiction too. It was through the love of my family that I survived. Love is the answer to this. To love each other and learn to love ourselves as God does. To understand His teachings and to love His commandments is to know freedom from addiction. Addiction is a temporary condition when we truly learn whey we are all here, what we are purposed to do, and what calling God has on our lives.
I pray right now if you have someone in your life you love that is suffering from addictions of any kind or if you yourself are in the throes of it, that you can believe that prayer is the first step to helping others and yourself out of it. Prayer for God to intervene and to give the person a truth that only Jesus can give. May He hear and answer your prayers today, amen.
