I‘m not a psychic. I’m not a clairvoyant, a clairsentient or a necromancer (which isn’t real). Those are occult terms for people who sense or read things in the spirit and are often misused for power, greed, control or manipulation of others for personal gain.
These occult tools are demonic methods for bypassing God to use God’s gifts he has for His blessed Sons and Daughters (Saints). These false prophet gifts are considered witchcraft or divination and it’s a abhorration to God and they have been around for a long time. In other words, I’m not a witch, diviner, a shaman, or any other practitioner of philosophy where men and women use deceiving spirits or a doctrine of demons to have supernatural abilities in this world.
The gift of Discernment of Spirits, is a spiritual gift from God. It’s a documented gift of the Holy Spirit that lends a person the ability to discern good from evil through sight, smell, sound, taste, words of knowledge, and kinesthetic methods. It is available through the Holy Spirit, biblical knowledge, and life experiences of the person with the gift. It’s a winnowing fork in your innermost being and it’s a helping gift used for encouragement, deliverance, healing, and to reveal secrets to men to glorify God. Those who have the gift of discerning of spirits are often thought to be crazy (see Jennifer Eivaz) or demon possessed (see Jesus) by those who don’t have a close relationship with Jesus Christ, but we are not crazy or demonized. We simply share the Holy Spirit, the same spirit Jesus had when He performed miracles, healed the sick, cast out devils and spoke prophetically to people he met during His ministry.
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
John 14:12
Many Christians have manifested gifts such as this and have been attacked by those in the church because the gifts were too powerful for leadership to want to manage. Christians have been excommunicated from churches because the church leadership rejected correction or guidance that opposes the normal church-growth model. Those with the gifting of discerning of spirits are a favorite target of Satan. I can personally attest to experiences where I fought battles where others never perceived a battle, because they were in the spiritual realm.
I have survived persecution in some churches where gifts such as this are little understood and rejected because leadership was in unbelief to the power and capability of spiritual gifts. I no longer feel the need to prove this gift to anyone, as I am guided and corrected daily. When a church or a person rejects me or the message I carry, they are not rejecting me as a natural man, they are rejecting the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Today’s church needs to be more accepting of people with this gift if they are to experience the God’s supernatural power and anointing. We must have eyes to see and ears to hear what God is saying, so we may act upon the knowledge and wisdom He has for us.
One aspect of the gift of discerning of spirits is the ability to hear/sense/feel the thoughts of other people (Heb. 5:14).

Discerning of spirits is not the same as a gift of discernment. In fact – there is no such spiritual gift as the gift of discernment, which in some “circles” is simply natural intuition. You likely are only perceiving with your natural (flesh) mind of hidden or not-so-hidden knowledge about a person. The discernment of spirits is different in that you are directed to the truth by the Holy Spirit. This inward knowing is the personal knowledge of other people’s lives in order to help, guide, encourage, correct and heal them; but it is the Holy Spirit guiding and not your natural wisdom or knowledge.
Satan does have a similar gift he can trick his followers (those who bow down and worship him) to believe they have, but they come at a large cost, a soul. They are done through deceiving spirits and divination spirits. These false prophetic gifts also come with lies and they do not encourage, help, build-up, guide, or correct Christians in a good or meaningful way. Satan has no interest in keeping man from sin. These messages from false prophets are stolen or just twisted truth that can cause some to sway from the narrow path.
And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
Matthew 12:25
Having this gift for awhile now, I know others can have it too. It is not as rare as we like to believe. Many Christians do not perceive they have this gift or others, because their eyes are blinded and their ears are closed to the truth. If our hearts are not healed, we may never operate in this gift or any gift with clarity, which is required to help, heal, pray for and prophecy to others as God directs.
