VISION: Last week I was out for a lunch and as I often do, I looked around for people to talk with or engage with while I have a chance to do so. You see, we are called to be friendly and kind to every one. While looking about, I saw an elderly man by himself. So every so often when I looked his way, he looked up but had no expression on his face and would not engage. I thought perhaps he was watching TV, but after a few times, I understood he just had wanted nothing to do with people. Then I pondered, why was this man alone? Where were his friends? Family? Why did he look away? And why do people alienate themselves in this way to be alone when the days are short, even while the people are many?

I briefly closed my eyes to ponder this with the Lord and I immediately had a vision. I saw the same man at the table – looking directly at me. Inside his mouth was a large bar of silver. He was slowly putting the large silver bar into his mouth for food. Then I came to realize, this elderly gentleman had replaced his relationships with money. He was alone because he did not care for people. He loved money. It became his idol, the thing he worshipped.

We often think that our lives don’t have eternal results. We do what we want when we want and suffer no immediate consequences. We like to believe our actions don’t hurt others and don’t hurt us. In truth, whatever we worship we become. If we worship money – we eat bars of silver or gold or cash. If we worship TV – we ingest TV and we start behaving like the characters on TV. When we worship idols, we become them. Wood, plastic, silver, food, sex, drugs, alcohol. We are what we eat – so we become what we worship; our idol.

What are you eating today?

We are here to help each other. To love one another. All things will pass away and no material gain or single-minded pursuit is worth your time or energy if it doesn’t help another. God put us here to take care of one another, not to collect stuff. It is our divine purpose.

Jesus Christ is the only way. When we worship Him, he prepares a table before our enemies. He ensures no weapons formed against us will prosper. He prepares our way by bringing the mountains low, the valleys level, and the crooked paths straight. He gives us perfect peace and He is our vengeance against our enemies. Because He loves us! ❤️
