When I was studying for my certifications in project management, the statistics showed that communications is 75-90% of the core activity of project management. It is important to hear and be heard in order to get things done. Mistakes in project communications would cause delay, confusion, missed deadlines and overrun budgets. In worst case scenario, it resulted in project disaster or failure.

So working with others to properly exchange information is important. It’s also important to God. The roots of the word communication mean to be with (com) as one (uni). In other words, to come together as one for a purpose.

Communication Breakdown

Confusion and Delay

It never feels good to be involved in situations where communication failed. Sometimes we get it wrong and we weren’t heard or failed at listening well. In these moments, it’s always gentleness that will see us through as we perform the work needed to correct the errors caused by a communication breakdown of any kind. In some cases, these breakdowns may cause hurt hearts, unnecessary anger, or worse, damaged relationships.

I admit too, I get it wrong some days. Sometimes I didn’t listen to what was being said and instead, I inferred my truth over someone else’s or worse, God’s. We can all be guilty of not hearing and having calloused hearts. Perhaps it is one of the reasons why Jesus spoke so many times, “he who has ears, let him hear.”

“For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭13:15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Communication Breakthrough

When God first spoke about Jesus after his baptism in water by John, He said, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.” In Luke 9:35.

To be one with God is to listen to Jesus and to listen to each other, and to do what it takes to be heard clearly and be as one together in truth.

Prayer:
We give you thanks and praise Almighty Father in Heaven! We yield to you. We ask for help in hearing you and others as we struggle with hearing. Make our hearts of flesh and not stone. Open our ears and our eyes to hear and see clearly, oh Lord. Heal us and bless us with a breakthrough in communications so we may be as one in our understandings with your ways as Jesus is one with you. Thank you Papa, we love you! In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!

Where are some areas in your life where you can apply better listening skills? How can you approach this challenging topic with greater humility, the way Jesus did? How can we all learn from Jesus in how we communicate? How can we love through our communications?

With that, we should look for God to heal us so we may offend each other less and love each other more. Let this knowledge guide you in communication breakthrough and how important it is to communicate well with each other and with God.

You are loved! ❤️

“So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;”‬‬
