“Whoever has ears, let them hear.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:15‬

There are 14+ instances of this phrase in most translations of the Bible. Why does it say this? Is it because we have a hard time hearing our Lord? Is it because something prevents us from hearing and the Lord commands a spirit to allow us to hear when He speaks?

There are many opinions on this matter, but what I’ve come to know as the truth is, that it’s both. Men can have a physical and a spiritual deafness that prevents them from hearing God’s word and the truth that is in them.‬‬

The Lord said it is He who can make men have this condition when we do not listen, see, or speak well:

“The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord?”

Exodus‬ ‭4:11

And it was the same power that Jesus used to open ears, let eyes see, mouths speak, and even more:

“The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.”

Matthew‬ ‭11:5‬

After all these years of Jesus being with us to show us how to live, love, pray, give, teach, heal, deliver, and save, in many ways, we are still deaf to the fullness of His teachings and His commands to go into all the world to preach the word to every creature (Mark 16:15 ). We also fail to use our mouths the way God intended us to (muteness) and we are indifferent to the evil that manifests in so many ways around us (blindness), causing the Lord to grieve when we don’t fulfill the pupose we were created for.

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

‭‭John‬ ‭10:10‬‬‬

Jesus came to show us how to live, and one of the consistent things He says to us is to hear Him and His words to know the truth (John 14:6). The enemy can also close off our ears, so His command to the spirit of deafness is to: “let them hear!” And the evil spirits obey Him (Mark 1:27)!

Can you hear Him now?

We are to bring heaven to earth and let His will be done to save the souls of many lost and deceived people among us. It is important for us to read, listen, and obey His word and His words are the words of Jesus Christ. We must also use our ears to hear His voice and more importantly, obey them. He is a loving, merciful, and gracious God who seeks that none of His children perish (2 Peter 3:9).

May your ears be open to His words and the knowledge, wisdom, and revelations they give, may your eyes be open to His truth in the visions and dreams He gives, and may your mouth be open to speak life (and not death) over every situation in your existence and in the lives of those in your charge as you go about your day.

You are loved! ❤️
